But who is a "psychologist"?
A psychologist is someone who has completed a four-year high school education with a degree in psychology - that is, spent at least five years studying the human mind and behavior. Like a psychiatrist (a person who has graduated from medical school and specialized in the field of psychiatry), a psychologist devotes a significant portion of their education to the issue of mental health and illness. However, unlike a psychiatrist, the second part of a psychologist's education is dedicated to the study of non-harmful patterns of behavior, such as motivation, learning, interpersonal relationships, personal values, the meaning of life, and numerous other topics. In other words, the goal of a psychologist's education is to develop an expert - a scientist - who is able to observe, describe, and understand human behavior (and the dispositions and thoughts behind it) - whether it is beneficial or harmful to the individual and society. And that is why a psychologist can help with a wide range of challenges - from issues of identity and personal development to everyday problems such as preparing for exams or resolving disagreements in relationships, all the way to working on the most serious traumas and diagnoses related to mental health. So, a psychologist is a multi-purpose expert in the field of mental health and well-being - they can help you understand and solve various life problems.
